President's Communiqué ~ February 2010

We’ve had a terrific kick off to 2010!  I would like to thank Chapter Secretary, Jennifer HinkleyKarnisky, SDA and H+L Architecture for hosting a fabulous networking event in January!  It was so good to see so many faces and a terrific time was had by all.

 

Chapter Announcements:

 

February 17th: LinkedIn and Social Media - The tips and tricks, do's and don’ts, what you need to know and why you need to be LinkedIn, presented by Stephen Sanders of First American Title Insurance Company. This program is being offered live at Barker Rinker Seacat and via Webinar for those that would like to attend remotely. This promises to be a great program!  Stay tuned for the flyer to come out this week!

 

March 17th: Workplace Violence – Presented by Karen Roman, CDFA, LEED AP.  The name says it all.  Please mark your calendars for this event.  More information will come soon.

 

April 21st: 2010 SDA Denver Chapter Annual Meeting  at the Denver Design Center.  This is the biggest SDA meeting of the year for the Chapter so mark your calendars!

 

ED Symposium 2010:

Mark your calendars.  It is time to register for EDSymposium 2010!  This year, EDSymposium will be held at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV May 19th - 22nd.  Early Bird registration ends on March 10th.  For registration information, see the brochure attached.

 

Scholarship and Grant Opportunities:

The Scholarship Committee announced the Chapter’s available scholarships to EdSymposium 2010 in January.  Economic times being what they are I encourage ALL of you to take advantage of this opportunity.  The Chapter is offering three $1000 scholarships.  Two (2) General Member Scholarships and one (1) First Time Attendee Scholarship. 

 

These applications are due by noon on Friday, February 19, 2010 to Scholarship Committee Chair Debra Ellis, CDFA.  They can be delivered via email, fax: 303.455.7457 or delivered to Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture at 3457 Ringsby court #200, Denver, CO  80216.

 

In addition, National has just announced the Past Presidents Council Professional Development Grant.  This is OPEN TO EVERYONE IN SDA.  Check out the attached criteria and application information!

 

Patricia K. Potts Professional Development Grant provides funds in support of the educational development and career advancement of SDA Denver Chapter members, ever a priority for the long-time and dedicated Denver Chapter member for whom this grant is named. Awarded funds are made available for one or more educational development and/or career advancement opportunities of the recipient’s choice for a period of one year following the grant award. 

 

This is open to all members.  Applications are due no later than February 26, 2010 with notification to the grant winner, and announcement to the Denver Chapter on March 15, 2010.

 

WE NEED YOU!!

The Chapter is in need of volunteers for serving on committees as well as on the Board. I will be forwarding a sign-up sheet with descriptions and contact information for local Chapter Committees that would like help.  I encourage everyone to have a look and be involved with the activities in our chapter.

 

Again, all are invited to attend monthly Business Meetings, either in person or remotely.  Learn about what it takes to make this Chapter great!
